The technical resources of Aeronavali have been used to accomplish activities on aircraft ranging from simple kit installation, Airworthiness Directives and Service Bulletins embodiment to the total rebuilding of entire fuselage sections.
The integration of all the specific skiils (Engineering, Maintenance, Fabrication and Assembly) with the Modification process determined the ability of Aeronavali to face any modification requirements. The Aeronavali's Passenger to Freighter Programs started in 1985 with the first DC-8 converted into full freighter configuration. The DC-8 program, with a total of 47 aircraft converted, was so successful thal McDonnell Douglas and Aeronavali signed an Exclusive License for the Freighter Conversion of DC-10 aircraft. This means that the customers that bought a DC-10 converted at Aeronavali were acquiring not only a first-class product, but also the devotion of an entire organization.

The Cargo Conversion process was divided into the following main modules:
• Main deck floor rework (struts, support & panels);
• Central wing section reinforcemente in order to increase the aircraft's operating weight;
• Forward Left fuselage modification and Cargo Door installation;
• Systems modification (hydraulic, electric and air conditioning);
• Lower Gallery rework and dedicated structural mod to adapt the Loading System;
• Revision of documentation necessary for aircraft certification and to operate the aircraft Cargo modifies.

Aeronavali granted each conversion with the recognition of the Original Aircraft Manufacturer that acknowledged the airplane to the new full freighter role for its entire remaining life.
From 1985 Aeronavali had made a massive effort to the development of a Passenger to Freighter Conversion Program for the MD-11 and DC-10 series aircraft, and until 2009 was offering a very extensive industrial support with qualified personnel, granting a deep and outstanding knowledge in such a work. This project was supported by a dedicated organization, an oriented management and a flexible industrial system perfectly tuned with the best quality and efficiency.

The reached level of experience, in the specific field of the cargo conversion market, has grown through a lot of betterment in the different milestones that make up the final product.
With the number of DC-10-10, DC-10-30, DC-10-40 and MD-11 aircraft redelivered to various customers, Aeronavali had been the undisputed worldwide leader for Tri-Jets Douglas Cargo Conversions until 2009
